Alcedo ATTHIS is the scientific name for the kingfisher.


In ancient Greece, kingfishers were called halcyons and believed to calm the seas.

It calms the wind and waves, calms the sea, and hatches eggs, so it is a sign of peace and happiness.

Written as jade, it also means kingfisher, and it is a beautiful bird like a jewel. ​
